On This Day!April 29, 1985. European 'Space Lab' launched in Space.

On April 29, 1985. The European space agency's Space lab launched on mission STS-51B. It was the second time when space lab went into space, the first flew by fully operational configuration.

Space lab assortments had gone into space in three shuttle missions previously but this time while space lab was used to conduct research in microgravity. It provides research in five fields:- Astronomy, Atmospheric physics, Material science, Life sciences, and fluid dynamics.


The lab like a cylinder and about 23 feet long( about a short school bus). The pressurized module placed in the shuttle's cargo bay. 7 Astronauts, 2 monkeys, and 24 rodents launched in space during mission STS-51B. After spending a week and doing research in space. They safely landed at Edwards Air Force Base.
